Making - W274

Making of triangular piece W274.

This piece was made on its side, which got a bit complex thinking about how to achieve the desried look, and how it would move, so it looks good when turned upright (to see the cutting and printing see W283).

This piece was difficult to assemble in the kiln; the mathematics/geometry in this was very complex.

Detail of multi lamination.

Dam assembly.

Careful heating.

Note how the pre-planned assembly is now moving and undulating the layers. This piece is partly devitrified.

A perfect firing fitting mould exactly.

It took many years of careful trial, error and mathematics to achieve this; note books went back some 30 years detailing carefully every firing. Things though did not always go so well!
